Spring Energy, Outdoor Events, and the Start of Something Good
Outdoor Events, Local Flavor, and the Season Begins.
May is when Bennington, Vermont fully opens up. The doors, the streets, the stages, all of it. After a long Vermont winter, this is the month where things don’t just return, they arrive with intention. You’ll feel it in the first outdoor events of the season, in the sound of live music echoing down Main Street, and in the steady rhythm of people gathering again.
From craft beer and classic cars to one of downtown’s biggest festivals, May offers a clear invitation: come experience Bennington when it’s alive, active, and just getting started.
Park-McCullough House
160 Years of History, Open to All
The season begins Memorial Day Weekend at one of Southern Vermont’s most important cultural destinations. The Park-McCullough House opens May 22 through October 19, Friday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In 2026, the Park-McCullough marks its 160th year with a major shift: free admission for all visitors for the entire season.
Plan your visit to Park McCullough House at 1 Park Street the next time you’re in the area, one of Southern Vermont’s most beautiful historic destinations.
“We’re truly excited this year to open the doors to the museum by offering free admission for all,” said Mike Rice, Director of Philanthropy. “We invite everyone… to come explore this special place… and become a part of the history of this integral part of Southern Vermont community life.”
This Gilded Age mansion, once home to two Vermont governors and host to a presidential visit in 1891, remains one of the best-preserved historic homes in New England. Visitors can explore the house, grounds, and collections as a complete time capsule of late 19th and early 20th century life.

Southern Vermont Homebrew Festival
10 Years of Craft, Community, and Creativity
Kicking off the month, the Southern Vermont Homebrew Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary on May 2, and it’s exactly the kind of event that defines Bennington’s community-driven energy.
Homebrewers from across the region gather to share their craft, offering tastings throughout the day in an atmosphere that’s equal parts laid-back and deeply passionate. It’s not just about beer, it’s about experimentation, conversation, and connection.
This year’s entertainment features Start Again, a Bennington-based alternative rock duo blending digital production with live instrumentation. Expect a high-energy set with covers from The Postal Service, Weezer, and Radiohead, alongside original material that matches that same spirit.
Whether you’re deep into craft brewing or just curious, this is one of the most approachable, and enjoyable, events of the spring.
